We named this lot after Hernan, because it was a lot that we cupped and decided to keep separate. This is one of our natural coffees from Villa Clabelina, it has wild fruit, loads of berries and candy-like sweetness.
Juan Saldarriaga introduced us to Hernan Prieto and his farm, Villa Clabelina. Hernan is the owner and Juan manages the farm. Villa Clabelina is also a member of the Coffee Growers Association. This is a group of farmers working together to improve their production protocols and methods, and who share knowledge on production and processing. The group was started by Juan Saldarriaga, who has been conducting experimental processing at his family’s farms to produce improved and differentiated products. He has been sharing the skills he has developed with the group members.
Arrival sample 15.05.21: Espresso option. Intense and distinctive. Structured black currant and riesling throughout, with complex dark fruit layers. Good sweetness and a juicy yet filling mouthfeel and a smooth finish. Flavor notes of riesling, black currant, blackberry, and blueberry jam.
